The idea

Currently used formulas for IOL power calculation are conceived for cataract surgery performed as a single procedure. As a consequence, changes in shape and internal structure of the vitreous chamber during vitrectomy occurring in combined procedures are often associated to unexpected refractive results. We present a new formula that takes into account the consequences of vitrectomy on IOL power calculation, providing both the suggested IOL in case of combined surgery and the refractive error that is to be expected if standard formulas are used instead. This information will be automatically calculated with the presented tool starting from two elements: IOL power chosen for your patient with cataract surgery formulas and the type of formula used for calculation.
