Antonio Capone, Jr., MD is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medical Sciences at Oakland University in Michigan, and a partner at Associated Retinal Consultants in Royal Oak, Michigan.
He received his medical degree from Brown University Medical School, and completed an internship in internal medicine at Yale University.
His additional postgraduate training includes a residency in ophthalmology at Pittsburgh Eye and Ear Infirmary and a retinal fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Actively involved in retinal clinical research, Dr. Capone currently is principal investigator in multiple national, multicenter clinical trials including corporate-funded studies.
Complementing his research endeavors, Dr. Capone serves on numerous scientific advisory boards.
He is an internationally recognized leader in the areas of advanced retinal surgery, pediatric retinal disease, and macular surgery.
He is a major contributor to medical literature, having authored several ophthalmology texts and more than 200 book chapters, original reports, electronic publications, and abstracts.
Dr. Capone is actively involved in fellow and resident education as Director of the Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at Associated Retinal Consultants – one of the world’s premier vitreoretinal training programs.
Dr. Capone has been recognized by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retinal Specialists with Senior Honor Awards, has received the American Medical Association’s Physician’s Recognition Award, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Senior Achievement Award.
